4x4 light issues diff lock works great

I spent the weekend helping a friend clear some trails and borrowed his 1000R for the job. He mentioned that the 4x4 system was a bit inconsistent, so I decided to give it a shot. I can hear the servo engaging when I switch to 4x4 and also when I activate the diff lock. The two diff lock lights come on just fine, but there's no 4x4 light at all, and honestly, it doesn't feel like it's engaging either.

I've done some searching, but most discussions seem to revolve around flashing lights or error codes. In this case, there's nothing, it's completely unresponsive. Has anyone else experienced this?

sounds like a problem with the sensor that confirms 4x4 is engaged. There's usually a switch or sensor that tells the ECU, 'Yep, 4x4 is in!'
If that sensor isn't working, the light won't come on, and sometimes the system won't fully commit power or torque to the front end even if it's partially engaged. Since your diff lock lights do work, it isolates the issue specifically to the general 4x4 engagement feedback, not the diff lock feedback

Could be a fuse, relay, or even the switch itself acting up. Have you tried manually checking the front diff engagement or testing the relays with a multimeter? Sometimes a little grease on the connectors helps too

If the servo sounds like it's engaging but there's no 4x4 light or actual engagement, your issue might be a stripped front diff coupler, not electrical. People obsess over sensors and switches when it's often mechanical failure hiding underneath
