Help me win an argument with my brother-in-law

BIL bought a used 2022 Yamaha YXZ1000R SS XT-R and won't stop bragging about it. He told me what he paid and I almost spit out my drink. I believe he paid way too much for what is basically a winch and some different paint over a base model with the same Sport Shift transmission. How much more is the XT-R package actually worth on 1 of these and what is a typical used price for 1 with low hours?

The value of the XTR really depends on whether you'd install those exact accessories yourself.
A winch, better shocks, and those unique wheels/tires can easily add several thousand to the cost if bought separately.
On the used market, a low hour XT-R would typically command a few grand over a comparably spec'd base SS model because those upgrades are already there and integrated

Appreciate the breakdown, man. Makes me think BIL didn't overpay quite as wildly as I thought. If you had to ballpark a fair price range for a clean XT-R with under 500 hours, where would that usually land? He claimed it was "a steal" and I'm still trying to figure out how true that is.

Hah, sibling rivalry never dies. Thanks for sharing that story. Anyway, the ballpark for a clean 2022 XT-R with under 500 hours is usually a few grand over a base SS, depending on region and condition. If he paid market value, he didn’t steal it. LOL. But still, he probably didn’t get robbed either.
